In the Netherlands, obstetricians increasingly refer pregnant women to a gynaecologist. In due time this may have serious consequences for the availability of primary obstetrical care. This is one of the findings of a study carried out by the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research TNO among nearly 2 million pregnancies between 1988 and 2004.
